                                                      Children’s Musical Opportunities

Angel Music (Kindergarten and 1st Grade)                                                                         Rachel Burton

Children will have the unique opportunity this fall to learn the basics of music through the Bastien Piano Basics Series.  This curriculum includes fun songs and games that can be done at the keyboard while equipping children for lifelong musicianship.  Meeting time is TBA.

SDG Kids (2nd – 6th Grades)                                                                  Rachel Burton/Catherine Bartoli

SDG means “soli deo Gloria,” or “Glory to God alone.”  The meeting time is on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:30 pm (including snack time).  Children learn songs to sing in worship (usually 10:50 service) and learn the basics of handbells, hand chimes, and various percussion instruments.  New in spring 2010 will be a guitar unit where students learn basic guitar chords and techniques.  They also improve their music reading skills through the instrumental training.  SDG Kids sing/play in worship usually once a quarter and prepare Christmas and spring musicals.  No audition required.

Youth Musical Opportunities

Chapel Choir (7th – 12th grades)                                                                                         Catherine Bartoli

Rehearsals are held Wednesdays from 6:15-7:15 pm.  The Chapel Choir prepares anthems of a variety of styles and regularly leads music for the 8:30 worship service.  On occasion they join the Chancel Choir for festival pieces.  There is no audition required.

Instrumental opportunities (7th – 12th grades)                                                                   Catherine Bartoli

Youth have opportunities to perform instrumental solos or ensembles through the year and may play handbells occasionally.

Adult Musical Opportunities

Chancel Choir (adults)                                                                                                       Catherine Bartoli

Rehearsals are held Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00 pm.  The Chancel Choir sings throughout the calendar year at the 10:50 worship service, presenting anthems in a wide variety of styles, ranging from African songs to traditional sacred music.  They also present large choral works in concert with orchestral accompaniment two to three times a year.  For All Saints Day 2009 the choir presented the Mozart Requiem in concert with members of the Midland-Odessa symphony.  No audition required.

Chapel Bells (adults)                                                                                                              Rachel Burton

Rehearsals are held Mondays from 7:00-8:00 pm.  Chapel Bells will ring in worship four to five times a year as well as share music for special events within the church and out in the community.  No audition is necessary, but an ability to read music is very helpful.

Instrumental Ensembles (adults)                                                                                    Catherine Bartoli

Members may meet and prepare instrumental solos or ensembles or accompany the choir occasionally throughout the year.
