EASTER ALTAR PARAMENTS and BANNERS

The EASTER ALTAR PARAMENTS and BANNERS were given by Dale and Helen Clemmer "to the honor and glory of God and in loving memory of their son, Rev. Dick Clemmer."

The altar paraments and banners remind us of the central event of the Christian faith-the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is that event that we re-enact each Sunday when we gather for worship. The tomb could not hold him and God conquers sin and death.

The subdued colors of the rainbow on all of the cloths is a quiet reassurance of God’s promise given first to Noah and then in the resurrection of Jesus. It reminds us that God does not desert His creation.

The colors used in the banners convey their own meaning;

white — purity

green — life and growth

yellow or gold — pricelessness

purple — royalty

brown — the earth

The cross’ prominent place on the superfrontal focuses on the reason for the resurrection, God’s great love for us through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. While you may see a rainbow on the superfrontal, it can also symbolize the empty tomb with the stone rolled away.

Both the butterfly and the lilies have come to be symbols in the church of the promise of life from death. Such joyous news prompts us to proclaim that "Christ Is Risen — Shout Alleluia."

These EASTER altar paraments and banners hang in the sanctuary through the six Sundays of Easter and are used for funerals and memorial services.

Paraments

It is the responsibility of the Worship Council to change both the banners and paraments according to the seasons of the Church year and/or the occasion of a special worship service such as a Festival, Funeral or Wedding. The banners and paraments are to be inspected to see that they are in presentable conditions. Paraments and Banners are kept in the sacristy closet.

When there is a Funeral, the Easter White banners and paraments should be used. Also, the Paschal Candle should be used during funerals.
