Ash Wednesday Service

St. Luke's United Methodist Church will hold an Ash Wednesday Service from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22. Special music begins at 6 p.m.

Lenten Prayer Offering

The Rev. Kathryn Boren will lead a time of Centering Prayer from 7-7:30 a.m. each Wednesday during Lent beginning Feb. 22. Please join her at St. Luke's United Methodist Church for a time of contemplation and meditation in Conference Room 110. Enter the building from the northwest STAFF ENTRANCE door on Kansas Street. All are welcome to attend.

Lenten Sermon Series (

The cross stands at the center of the Christian faith. Have you ever wondered why? What gives it power and meaning to Christians?

Scripture and tradition offer a variety of ways to understand its power and purpose. During Lent, St. Luke's United Methodist Church will explore what the cross means to Christians today and the difference it can make in a person's life.

Steve Spain
Organist

A native of Lufkin, Texas, Steve Spain is a 1975 graduate of TCU with a Bachelor's Degree in Church Music with concentration in Organ performance. As a college student, he was organist for Carswell Air Force Base Chapel that included seven worship services every weekend! Because of his service to Carswell, Steve was awarded the Certificate of Meritorious Service from the Chief of Chaplains, USAF. He promptly moved to Midland where he was Organist-Choirmaster at First Christian Church and then organist for Trinity Presbyterian Church for 22 years. Steve was responsible for the design and installation of the Schantz Pipe Organ at Trinity in 1991, and established an "emergency ministries" program five years ago that is now being utilized in other churches. He has been organist with St. Luke's UMC since November 2006.
