We are pleased to announce that the tour is on as scheduled June 8 through June 22. Dr. Wes Gomer from McMurry University will be directing Spirit Wind this year. We have included a short biographical sketch of Dr. Gomer below. We recognize that when change takes place there will be some "bumps in the road," but we can assure you that the 2008 Spirit Wind Tour will be a rewarding experience for all those who participate and the Spirit Wind Board and all those who work with Spirit Wind are and will continue working hard to insure that we have a wonderful and successful tour. Dr. Wes Gomer is a member of the music faculty of McMurry University, where he teaches piano, organ and aural skills. He is also the conductor of the McMurry Chanters, as well as organist for the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene. A native of Fort Worth, Dr. Gomer served as a full-time church musician for a number of years, most notably in Arlington and Longview, Texas. He was the founding musical director for the Longview Opera Company, taught as adjunct faculty and staff accompanist for East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, and guided an active, all-volunteer music ministry while Organist/Director of Music Ministries for Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview. He currently serves on the board of directors for Young Audiences of Abilene and is sub-dean for the Big Country Chapter, American Guild of Organists. Dr. Gomer has presented organ recitals throughout Texas, Missouri, Louisiana and Florida. His particular interests are in the areas of service playing and planning, and his on-going research is centered on exploring the works for organ which are inspired by the sounds and effects of bells.
